THINC scaling method that bridges VOF and level set schemes

We present a novel interface-capturing scheme, THINC-scaling, to unify the VOF (volume of fluid) and level set methods, which have been developed as two different approaches widely used in various applications. The key success is maintain high-quality THINC reconstruction function using field accurately retrieve geometrical information fulfill numerical conservativeness. interface well defined surface form high-order polynomial, so-called polynomial (PSI). then update via finite volume method, semi-Lagrangian method. Seeing aspects function, THINC-scaling scheme preserves at same time advantages both i.e. mass/volume conservation method faithfulness through straightforward solution procedure. allows represent an with polynomials has algorithmic simplicity largely eases its implementation unstructured grids. Two three dimensional algorithms structured grids verified. results reveal that capturing able provide high-fidelity comparable other most advanced more profoundly it can resolve sub-grid filament structures if represented by higher than second order.
